Adil Ahmed, MD
President DOGANA 2024

It is with great enthusiasm and because of a strong belief in “paying it forward” that I am serving as president of the Dow Gradutes Association of North America. It is my desire to give back to the alumni that led me to eagerly accept the opportunity to work with our dedicated group including our Alumni Central Council, our members, and the Dow graduates living in North America. This is an exciting time for DOGANA. A time of growth and a rich history of tradition holds, with great opportunity for involvement existing at every level.

I stand in line with past presidents who served this organization before me and made the DOGANA into what it is today. I must thank and congratulate the previous presidents for the excellent work carried out in past under the trying conditions. The DOGANA Executive Councils were ably assisted by an enthusiastic team and together they were able to achieve their objectives. I am confident that with the dynamic central council present, we can do justice to the faith you all have put in us by placing us at the helm of the Dow Gradutes Association of North America.

Our past presidents and the central council have taken great steps forward in starting and continuing various projects over the last few years and our aim is to continue these projects. DIGS, the student loan program, disaster relief efforts, the UMD-DOGANA endowment and various new projects will be some of our major priorities this year. These new projects will focus mainly on Dowites; many Dow students are struggling with our country’s currently challenging economy. This year, we will establish a formal Dow students tuition assistance program to help needy young Dowites.

The Dow Gradutes Association of North America has actively supported these endeavors in every way. While continuing the good work of the past council, we have planned a series of activities for this year that will strengthen these actions. We will establish a stronger relationship with Dow international medical graduates and students. We will also strengthen ties with Dowites who have begun working in or are seeking careers in non-medical fields. We will establish DIMC and DOGANA alliance committees to grow alumni relationship with them.

In addition to continuing the tradition of social interaction among DOGANA members, we also need the soft skills to enable us to engage professionally with other professional organizations while serving Dowites with empathy and compassion. DOGANA will also take steps to initiate a series of activities that will help in promoting medical education and professional skills. DOGANA will establish a platform to help DUHS improve its clinical strength and education through a structured program. We will contact you to support various medical professional skills starting with DUHS during your visit to Pakistan.

You can count on us to plan and execute a very promising program for this year. Together, we will help DOGANA and members, both young and not quite as young, achieve their highest goals, with a sense of community and professionalism.

I thank you all again for your support in this role. As a DOGANA president, I believe we truly make up a remarkable group of individuals and I look forward to hearing from you with ideas on how to further grow and collaborate with one another as proud DOGANA members.

Warmly,

Syed Adil Ahmed, MD
